New art installation by Avram Finkelstein displayed at the NYC AIDS Memorial

On Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 1 p.m., on a gray and rainy day, people gathered around the New York City AIDS Memorial for the opening of a new art installation, DEDICATIONS, by artist and activist Avram Finkelstein. Poet Irena Klepfisz was there, too, and read her poem “Bashert,” a word that means “destiny” in Yiddish. It provided “a framework” for the words on the translucent panels of the artwork:

“These words are for the ones who survived.

These words are for the ones who died.”

and in “a dialogue” with the New York City AIDS Memorial site, itself. The work is on display through December.
