How was your holiday season? Are you happy it’s finally over? Ready for a kinder and gentler (new) year?
…That said, while 2022 is still visible in the rear-view mirror, here are a few highlights from the year that was:
As I became the arts editor of Out IN Jersey Magazine (I’ve been a contributing writer and photographer since 2006 :-)) I had the chance to run a photo contest and a related podcast. In addition, 2022 marked Out IN Jersey Magazine‘s 20th anniversary. So…Happy Anniversary! to a wonderful publication. I’m so honored to be part of the OIJ team.
Unexpectedly, I became the managing editor of A&U: Art & Understanding Magazine. While I greatly cherished the experience, (which in so many ways, was a dream come true), unfortunately, it was short-lived for reasons beyond my control. (After 19 years of contributing to A&U as a writer, photographer, and arts editor, it was deeply sad and heartbreaking to have to say goodbye…but that’s a story for another time, perhaps).

In addition, I’ve been teaching photography and photography-related workshops and courses in person and online, in classroom settings, and one on one, as well as photo tours. In the New Year, I will continue the work that I’ve been doing for 20 years–that is covering stories about HIV and AIDS, the LGBTQ+ community, equal rights, art and activism, as well as women’s rights. Especially nowadays it’s even more important to cover women’s rights! I will continue to photograph and write (much more), and also learn, hopefully not the hard way.
