Tribute in Light
Photographing the 9/11 Tribute Lights
Each year, on September 11, I go out to photograph the ceremonies and Tribute Lights. Every chance I get, throughout the entire year, I try to photograph stories and events related to 9/11. In my previous blog post, shared a few images and ideas of how to photograph the same subject, the Tribute Lights, in different and fresh ways, year after year. Feel free to check it out.
Here are a few images from this year’s week leading to September 11, 2017:

Yesterday, September 11, 2017, I was out and about in Jersey City, photographing the morning ceremonies, and then again at night, photographing the 9/11 Tribute in Light. On this day, the base of the One Word Trade Center tower, aka the Freedom Tower, is illuminated in blue to match the blue Tribute lights, I guess. Sometimes the entire Freedom Tower is illuminated in red, white, and blue. Empire State Building turns on its red, white, and blue lights.
While the subject is exactly the same, each September 11, the weather can add to the mood. Clouds and rain can enhance the dramatic element.
