As s postscript to last week’s ceremonies and commemorations surrounded this (and every year’s) September 11 here, in the U.S., today I’d like to share a few images of the 9/11 Tribute Lights and the Katyn Memorial.
To me, they reiterate, in a visual way, of course, and from their own perspectives, the theme, if you will, of this year’s presidential campaign–the idea or rather the concept of freedom. Freedom from terror and terrorism, and also freedom to live our lives in peace. And I might humbly add, the loss or absence of freedom

Also, some of the images captured on September 11, 2024 were #shotoniphone, like the one posted below. While experimenting with editing, I ended up with a 3D effect of sorts. The dark dots in the background look like dents, as if someone or something tried to pierce through the image, through the sky, but ended up only denting it.
The image, as it appears below, is a visual metaphor, a timely and timeless reminder of past and recent histories, and those we’re experimenting in present time, and that will define our future.

And also, here are the 9/11 Tribute Lights appearing over the Lower Manhattan skyline, each year, the evening of September 11.

As always, thanks for stopping by,
Alina Oswald
