Lately, I’ve noticed terms like “calm images” or “calming photography” or popping up in online searches. I think it makes sense, based on the rollercoaster so many of us have been through this the past year…years, actually. Hence, there’s no surprise that we seek creative work that’s more soothing and calming for the mind, body, and soul.
So, what exactly are “calm images” or what is “calm/calming photography”?
The simple answer is: any image that calms or soothes the soul, helps bring peace of mind, helps us…exhale. Here are a few examples:

In general, calm images might capture a quiet, nature scene or scape during the golden hour or blue hour, etc.
Other examples of calm images might include certain golden-hour silhouettes that do not evoke action or movement

More examples of calm/not calm photography:
a quiet or deserted beach at sunset is a calm image; a crashing wave or people jumping or playing on the beach, are not
a nature shot taken during the golden hour or blue hour, as Mother Nature is about to go to sleep, is a calm image; severe weather over such a scenery, not quite
a portrait showing a hug between two people or people and their pets, is calming; a pet jumping after a toy or people running around with their dogs, might evoke a good feeling, but also action

A Brocken Spectre, or Brockengespenst, is a rare appearance, an “optical illusion” capturing our shadow(s) surrounded by the rainbow. The Rainbow also symbolizes hope.
For now, though, I think many of us seek calm and quiet images….
Hope this finds you safe and well. As always, thank you for stopping by!
