Photographing Fireworks (again)

Because it’s almost Fourth of July, let’s take another look at fireworks photography. Over the years I’ve photographed and talked about how to photograph fireworks when teaching photography.

For a few ideas on how to photograph fireworks, read my post .

Here are a few images from last year’s 4th of July fireworks display:

  1. That last shot is quite unique and I love the bright solid streaks.

A couple of times I scored some great fireworks shots on New Years Eve when I lived near the main river running through Melbourne, but they were more luck than skill.

Where I currently live, I can see the fireworks over the city centre some 10 kilometres away, but not close enough to capture with a camera. In both Melbourne and Sydney the fireworks displays are really stunning.

    1. Hi Vicki,

Thank you so much for your note. Appreciate it! Last year we were lucky to be able to see the fireworks up close. I usually bring a zoom lens with me, unfortunately don’t have my long lens anymore. That would come in handy, but, hey….

From what I’ve seen on TV, I know, Sidney fireworks display is truly something. Bet Melbourne is the same.

      Thanks again very much!
