Surrounding ourselves with art–be that creating or looking at art–means surrounding ourselves with culture, history, and science, too. It’s good for the mind, body, and soul, and sometimes just what we need to face yet another day. Lately I’ve found myself strolling through art galleries, losing myself in art, while desperately trying to escape the chaos of everyday life, if only for a moment. Call it art therapy, if you will.
That’s how, a couple of weekends ago, I stumbled upon the work of award-winning artist Michael Alfano and got to meet the artist in person, too. Based in Massachusetts, Alfano was in Jersey City for a multi-artist show. The encounter was a wonderful surprise, especially since I’m a fan of his work and often photograph his public art installation, Of Many Minds , on my long strolls on the waterfront.
The name, Of Many Minds, reminds me of a 2014 show featuring some of my work, hosted by Casa Colombo, and called Of the Mind…hence, my fascination with Alfano’s work, perhaps or at least in part.

Truth is that each of the fifteen sculptures adorning the waterfront tells its own compelling and riveting story. In that sense, the Of Many Minds art installation is a compilation of thought-provoking, eye-opening stories that teach about culture, history, science, and life.
Try to spend time with this artwork. You’ll see what I mean….
