1927 – 2023
This month, the photography world lost one of its giants, award-winning photographer Marvin E. Newman. He was a New York native and Nikon photographer.
The world got to know Newman through his award-winning photography work published in the likes of Life Magazine, Smithsonian, or Sports Illustrator, or featured in places like The Metropolitan Museum, The Whitney, and the International Center of Photography, to mention only a few.

Others, those close to him, had the chance to know the photographer, as well as the person.
I met Marvin Newman about 20 years ago, as I was going to pick up my mail. We had just moved into the building and still getting to meet our neighbors. One of these neighbors was Marvin Newman.
To us, he was not only a famous photographer, but also a husband, father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor. I loved listening to his fascinating stories about photographing in the strangest places on earth, and “getting the shot” in the film photography world of years past.
Yesterday, as we gathered with friends and neighbors to remember Marvin E. Newman‘s memorable life and work, a full double rainbow appeared over the New York City skyline. A perfect sign from Marvin, I thought.
Rest In Peace, Marvin. Your memory and your memorable photography work will live on.
