2020 Vision: Caught Between Two Years

Happy New Year!

“Time waits for nobody,” Freddy Mercury croons. And it’s so true, don’t you think?

This post finds some of you still in 2019, waiting for that final countdown, and many others already in 2020. So, Happy New Year to you all, and I hope that 2020 will bring better days to us all.

While 2019 was a tough and rough year, it was also sprinkled, here and there, with solitary moments of hope, or perhaps there was the belief in having hope, still. And for that, for making those moments possible, I’d like to take a moment to thank a few people for all their support, this year in particular, as well as throughout the years–my family, friends, mentors, and in particular those who take a moment to read my blog and even leave a note once in a while. I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart! You inspire and keep me (and this blog) going. And I appreciate it beyond words!

On this last day of this year, I’d like to take a look back and share a few of my 2019 highlights:

Interviewing and photographing activist and artist Avram Finkelstein for the World Pride 2019 issue of A&U Magazine–America’s AIDS Magazine

June 6, 2019: Visual AIDS What Is 21st Century Liberation? installation opening party at New York Live Arts. Avram Finkelstein and Rodrigo Moreira designed the What Is 21st Century Liberation broadsheet for Visual AIDS in conjunction with the 50th annivesary of Stonewall Riots.

Getting to share my thoughts on the meaning and symbolism of World AIDS Day in A&U Magazine–America’s AIDS Magazine.

Photographing and being a panelist on Ron B’s show, No Boundaries Up Close and Personal, and working with the amazing actor and advocate, Ron B, on interesting projects. Ron B, you are indeed simply the best!

Walking in two Pride Marches this year with my wonderful managing editor, and also walking in the main Pride March with Visual AIDS, distributing the What Is 21st Century Liberation broadsheet.

Marching in World (NYC) Pride 2019, distributing copies of What Is 21st Century Liberation broadsheet. Many thanks to Visual AIDS for photographing during the march and sharing the images.

What Is Undetectable flash collective turned five this year. I’m humbled, honored, and proud to be a member of this collective and to see it this year on the streets of Manhattan, by the New York City AIDS Memorial.

Getting to work with wonderful, inspiring people. This year, in particular, I reconnected with NYC actor Steve Hayes and photographed him for his new one-man show, Steve Hayes with a Hitch. Thank you for the opportunity to see the actor in action, performing at Pangea, in NYC. Amazing show!

Getting together with family and friends. A special thank you to those who cross oceans and travel on business to NYC, and also take the time to get together with me.

And so, on this last day of 2019, I wish you all a Happy New Year!

Ein gute Rutsch! Frohes neues Jahr!

Feliz Año Nuevo! Feliz Ano Novo! Felice Anno Nuovo!

Bonne Année!

And I’ll see you next year 🙂

Happy New Year!

A Happy 2020 to you all!
