Photographing Summer

Photographing Summer

Here in the US, Memorial Day weekend also marks the beginning of summer. Summer is my favorite season. It symbolizes, among others, beautiful weather, nice temperatures, maybe even time to relax, to travel or go on an adventure, or carefree days….

We also tend to capture summer or, better said, our summer adventures, in words as well as in images. So, how should we capture summer in photography?

Here are a few ideas:

First and foremost, as with anything and everything that you photograph, make sure you make it unique, something that symbolizes your own, unique, interpretation of summer. As ideas, think of why you love (or not love) summer, activities and adventures that you embark on only during summer, and so on.

Here are some of my favorite:

Hawaii…because it’s summertime in Hawaii around the year. And because this blog post is about summer fun and adventures, here are a few pictures of fun in Hawaii:

Here are two images I called “Jump for Your Life” taken on Coconut Island, connected to Hilo, Hawaii, by a tiny bridge:

And some more “Jump for Your Life” kinda fun, in Kauai, Hawaii:

Summertime is also about having fun–in the sun or in the water:

Also, summer is about traveling, vacationing, taking time off from everyday life. And when it comes to traveling, some might like to travel in style:

Others might enjoy the small things in life, like going fishing…

in Sylt, Germany:

or down the Hudson:

Sometimes there’s nothing more soothing than listening to the summer rain:

wondering what’s next, and, at least in your mind, taking off…

…and “chase the moon across America”

Hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend, wish you all a fantastic summer and, as always,

thanks for stopping by!
